Tigers Jaw/ Tiny Empires: Split
This record got held up due to a dispute over Tiny Empires old band name, but it was well worth the wait. It’s good to hear some new Tigers Jaw material, and now all I’m hoping for is to see these two bands live together. The record looks and sounds great, and you can check it out here: http://runforcoverrecords.bandcamp.com/album/tigers-jaw-tiny-empires-split-7
The Gaslight Anthem: Forty-Five/ You Got Lucky
Let me first mention how appropriate the song title “Forty-Five” is for a 7”. Thanks for that Gaslight Anthem. This includes the first single from new album plus a fantastic Tom Petty cover, and we all know by now that nobody can pull off amazing covers as consistently as these guys. The artwork is pretty cool as well. Stream the songs here: http://www.playjones.com/uncategorized/the-gaslight-anthem-2-new-singles-forty-five-and-you-got-lucky/
Feist/ Mastadon: Feistodon
Chalk this up as the weirdest combination ever. I saw this during the hustle and bustle of Record Store Day and after first thinking “what the fuck?” I knew I had to get it. Honestly, it’s not half bad. Mastadon covers “A Commotion”, and Feist covers “Black Tongue”. Apparently there were a few random Mastadon splits, but I only saw the one. It seems everyone took down the streaming links - sorry guys.
Sam Means: NONA
If I ever made you a mix CD it’s included a song by The Format. This guy was the multi-instrumentalist from The Format, who I obviously love. Ergo, I bought this lovely EP. It was another Record Store Day find, and it’s just pleasant enough for any occasion. The download code came with extra songs. You can listen to and buy all of them here: http://music.means.am/album/nona-deluxe-version
